Neither the Witches' Voice, nor any other group, has been able to come up with a definitive answer to the above question. However, it can be stated that "Witchcraft" as defined by the religious clergy and public authorities of that time, in no way can be identified as the same Witchcraft practiced by thousands of people in the Salem area today. What was described in the documents of the trials is not now,and never has been, the belief or practice of the "Craft of the Wise". Witches are not opposed to Christianity or any other spiritual path. We believe all are free to pursue their religion in peace. Were the victims of 1692 really "Witches" as described in the trial records? Probably not. They all professed to be "good and god fearing people" to the end. Were they Witches as defined within the tenets of Witchcraft as a religion? We will probably never know for sure.
